The Khiêm Mausoleum (Khiêm Lăng) is a unique place where traditional Vietnamese architecture harmoniously blends with feng shui principles and the natural landscape. Built in 1864–1867 for Emperor Tự Đức, this 12-hectare estate features about 50 structures set among pine forests, lakes, and ponds. It is a must-visit destination to immerse oneself in the atmosphere of imperial leisure, poetry, and the deep history of the Nguyễn dynasty.

What you need to know
Designed by Emperor Tự Đức himself, the mausoleum served as an important hub of his life: here he read, wrote poetry, and relaxed. One of the complex's crown jewels is the stone stele—the largest in Vietnam—which features the emperor's autobiography inscribed upon it.
Despite its status as a tomb, the actual burial site of Emperor Tự Đức remains a mystery. According to legend, to preserve the secret of the monarch's resting place and his treasures, all 200 servants who participated in the ceremony were executed.
