What you need to know
The complex was built between 1802 and 1945. The central role is played by the Imperial Citadel (Hoàng Thành Huế) — a fortified city with the Purple Forbidden City and palaces built taking into account the Five Elements and five colors. Despite significant damage during the war in 1968, over 300 architectural structures have been restored today, including the majestic royal tombs of Emperors Gia Long, Minh Mạng, and Tự Đức along the Perfume River.
Important to remember: the complex is protected by UNESCO, and restoration work continues, preserving the authenticity of materials and techniques.
