From 1471 to 1611, the pass served as the border between Vietnam and the Champa kingdom. Before the construction of the modern route, it was a key artery for trade between the regions.

Route Characteristics

The 7 km long pass climbs to an altitude of 245 meters above sea level with a road gradient of 9%. It is a challenging winding road that requires caution and driving skills. The summit offers magnificent views of the Truong Son mountain range, dense forests, and the vast sea.

Cù Mông Tunnel

Since 2019, a 2.6 km high-speed tunnel has been operational. It allows travelers to cross the distance in just 6 minutes, whereas navigating the dangerous mountain switchbacks takes about 30 minutes. This is a critical safety solution during the rainy season.
