The Bản Phủ Citadel is a significant national historical monument in Noong Hẹt commune, constructed from 1758 to 1762 under the leadership of leader Hoang Cong Chat. The site is a unique example of past defensive architecture, where visitors can still see the remains of earthen ramparts, gate outlines, and watchtower foundations.

What to Know
The citadel was built as a resistance base and the capital of the Mường Thanh region. The site covers two parts: the outer (pentagonal) and the inner (rectangular) citadel. The inner citadel served as the residence of leader Hoang Cong Chat, in whose honor a temple is established here today.
What to See:
- Defensive Boundaries: Massive earthen ramparts (5 meters high) still remain, which, according to legends, were wide enough for elephants and horses to travel along.
- Gates: Architectural elements that historically faced the four cardinal directions.
- Historical Context: Remnants of the water supply system and watchtower foundations.
If you visit this site on the 9th–10th days of the third lunar month, you can witness the traditional festival recreating the region's historical atmosphere.
The dry season is ideal for walking around the complex and viewing the earthen fortifications.
