The Hanoi Flag Tower (Cột cờ Hà Nội) is one of the few structures that survived the French colonial period. Built in 1812, it is now part of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long and offers visitors the opportunity to climb to the top for a view of Hanoi's historic center.

What to know
History and Architecture The tower was erected during the Nguyen dynasty as an observation post for the citadel. Its octagonal pyramid structure reaches a height of 33.4 meters. Unique architectural details include engraved Dharma wheel symbols on the windows and philosophical inscriptions above the three entrances: "Gathering Sun", "Reflecting Light", and "Facing the Sun".
What to see Visitors can use the internal spiral staircase to climb to the top of the tower. Once at the top, you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the Ba Dinh district. The tower is within walking distance of other key city attractions such as the Temple of Literature and Lenin Park.
