The Basa Fish Monument is an iconic 14-meter structure erected in honor of the region's main provider. Located at the confluence of three major rivers, the monument reflects the rich history of fish farming in An Giang province and the developmental path of local aquaculture, once referred to as the "golden fish."

What you need to know
The monument was opened in 2004 in Chau Doc Park (Công viên Châu Đốc) at 79 Le Loi, Chau Phu B. The composition of the monument is deeply symbolic: the upper part depicts a basa fish leaping out of the water, and at the base are nine tra catfish, symbolizing the nine branches of the Mekong Delta (Cửu Long — "Nine Dragons").
Historical significance:
Basa farming became an important economic driver for Vietnam starting in the 1970s. The Chau Doc region became the center of professional cage fish farming, and the export of products to countries in Europe, Asia, and the US brought significant revenue to the region. Although the "tra" catfish species has now taken the lead in exports, the monument remains a vital symbol of the hard work of Mekong Delta farmers.
