The Thoai Ngoc Hau Tomb (also known as Son Lang) is an impressive architectural complex located at the foot of the sacred Sam Mountain. This site is dedicated to Nguyen Van Thoai (1761–1829), an outstanding administrator during the Nguyen Dynasty who played a key role in land reclamation and the development of Southern Vietnam through the construction of the Thoai Ha and Vinh Te canals. Visiting the tomb offers a glimpse into the history of the Mekong Delta's development and showcases an example of ancient Vietnamese feudal architecture.

What you need to know
The complex is built from hydraulic lime and features a central courtyard with three tombs: Thoai Ngoc Hau himself and his two wives, Chau Thi Te and Truong Thi Miet. A monumental trapezoidal staircase of over 100 steps leads up to the mausoleum. Above the main complex stands a temple housing a bust of the statesman.
Of particular note are:
- Builders' Memorial: The grounds contain over 50 unmarked graves of workers who died during the construction of the Vinh Te Canal.
- Vinh Te Son Stele: A sandstone monument erected in 1828 featuring 730 Chinese characters that recount the history of this massive construction project.
Every year on the 6th day of the 6th lunar month, a solemn commemorative ceremony is held here, drawing thousands of pilgrims and tourists.
