Phu Hai Prison is a significant historical site operating as an open-air museum. Spanning 12,015 square meters, the complex offers a glimpse into the tragic pages of Vietnamese history, having held political prisoners, independence fighters, and prominent public figures.

What you need to know
Established by the French colonial authorities on February 1, 1862, the prison went through a long journey from "Ban I" to its modern name received in 1974. This place has become a symbol of the resilience of the Vietnamese people.
What to see:
- Exhibition: Realistic mannequins recreating the harsh living conditions and torture of the past.
- Cell No. 9: A historically restored room with figures of chained prisoners.
- "Tiger Cages": The infamous narrow solitary confinement cells where it was impossible even to lie down.
- Other objects: Original guardhouses, a 1963 chapel, a Buddhist altar in the courtyard, and stone quarries where prisoners were subjected to hard labor.
