History
Hang Duong Cemetery is a place of profound remembrance located on Con Son Island. Here rest thousands of prisoners and revolutionaries who perished in the Con Dao prison system over a span of 113 years. It is not just a memorial, but a symbol of Vietnamese history, where every monument speaks of courage and the struggle for independence.

What you need to know
The 19-hectare memorial complex is divided into four zones. It contains 1,922 graves, including those of prominent figures such as Vo Thi Sau, Le Hong Phong, and Nguyen An Ninh.
Key Features:
- Main Monument: A 21.6-meter structure made of 144 stone slabs.
- Tomb of Vo Thi Sau: The most revered site, where locals leave offerings, believing in good luck and protection.
- The Great Bell: An impressive structure weighing 9,400 kg.
- Ceremonial Square: A 30-meter-long relief depicting the 113-year history of the prison.
The complex is open daily. In the evening (after 5:00 PM), it takes on a uniquely peaceful atmosphere illuminated by lanterns and filled with the scent of incense.
