What to know
The museum is located on Nguyen Hue Street and covers an area of 2 hectares. Its collection features over 2,000 artifacts, including unique documents and historical items. The exhibition is divided into four key themes:
- Nature and People: The archipelago's ecosystem and ancient settlements.
- Earthly Hell: The period of the French colonial prison.
- Schools and Battlefields: The history of the prison system during the Vietnam War.
- Con Dao Today: Regional development, fishing, and ecology.
A large 6-meter stainless steel statue is installed in the ceremonial hall. Visiting the museum grants access to seven other key historical sites on the island.
The best time to visit is when the sea is calm, the weather is favorable for island-hopping excursions, and sea turtles can be witnessed laying eggs on the coast.
