What you need to know

Construction of the cathedral began in 1899, and the official consecration took place in 1916. Since 1960, the church has officially held the status of the cathedral of the Diocese of Cần Thơ.

Architectural features:

  • Gothic style: The 520 m² building is shaped like a cross and painted in an elegant pale yellow.
  • Bell tower: Three bells cast in France in 1926 and decorated with Latin phrases.
  • Interior: Majestic arched openings, stained glass windows, and round columns with delicate ornamentation.
  • Shrines: The cathedral houses the tombs of two significant bishops — James Nguyễn Ngọc Quang and Emmanuel Lê Phong Thuận.

The cathedral underwent careful restoration in 1993, preserving its historical appearance, including expanded side wings for the congregation.
