About

What you need to know

History and Symbolism

The monument was officially inaugurated on September 9, 2009, at 9:09 AM. This date was chosen intentionally: the number 9 plays a key role in the legend of Saint Gióng. Created by artist Nguyễn Kim Xuân, the sculpture masterfully captures the image of the young hero on a rearing horse with a bamboo spear.

Engineering Excellence

The 86-ton structure is cast from pure copper using manual casting methods. A unique feature is the two bronze hearts hidden inside the statues of the saint and his horse. The monument is surrounded by a plaza paved with 9,999 blue stones.

Cultural Context

The monument is located at the top of Mount Đá Chồng within the historical Sóc Sơn temple complex. This is the venue for the Gióng Festival, recognized by UNESCO. Tourists often perform a traditional ritual of walking around the statue nine times to show their reverence.
