Thoi Son Island (Thới Sơn), also known as Unicorn Island, is the largest of the four "sacred islands" in the Mekong Delta. It is a popular tourist destination where you can immerse yourself in the atmosphere of an authentic Vietnamese village: stroll through shady fruit orchards, take a traditional boat ride along narrow canals, and hear the enchanting sounds of Southern Vietnamese Don Ca Tai Tu music.

What you need to know
Thoi Son Island was formed naturally by alluvium deposits from the Tien River. Its area is about 12 sq. km. The island's history began in the 1680s with the arrival of Chinese settlers, and today over 6,000 people live here.
What to see and do:
- Sampan ride: A traditional boat is the best way to see the canal life surrounded by nipa palms.
- Fruit orchards: Try the best seasonal fruits (mango, rambutan, durian) and enjoy honey tea right in the orchards.
- Cultural heritage: Visit Mr. Tam's house with its ancient bamboo interior and bee farm, as well as coconut candy and rice paper workshops.
- Don Ca Tai Tu music: Daily performances by folk musicians, inscribed on the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list.
The dry season is the ideal time to visit. You will find clear skies, pleasant walking weather, and the peak of the harvest and honey season.
