The Temples of Emperors Dinh and Le are a historical complex located in the ancient capital of Hoa Lu, in Ninh Binh province. This place offers a glimpse into the origins of Vietnamese statehood, where the first centralized empire of Dai Co Viet was founded in the 10th century. Located just 300 meters apart, they represent a rare example of Ly-Tran period architecture and are a must-visit for anyone wishing to understand the country's history.

What you need to know
The complex includes two main temples: the temple of Dinh Bo Linh and the temple of Le Dai Hanh. The temple of Emperor Dinh was built in the 17th century on the site of the former royal palace and is unique in that it honors not only the monarch himself, but also his entire family and generals. The Le Temple is dedicated to his successor Le Dai Hanh and Queen Duong Van Nga.
Both structures are built in the traditional Vietnamese style using wood and stone, following the "nội công ngoại quốc" (inner-outer) layout principle. Special attention should be paid to the rich wood carvings depicting dragons and the central hall of the Le Temple, which houses a statue of the emperor in ceremonial attire. The complex is harmoniously integrated into the landscape among limestone cliffs, creating an atmosphere of peace and antiquity.
