What you need to know
The cave consists of three levels: the "Bat Cave" (upper), the "Light Cave" (middle), and the "Dark Cave" (lower). The main 300-meter-long passage impresses with its high ceilings. At 150 meters from the entrance, the water section begins, where the underground river goes subterranean only to reappear at the foot of the mountain as the Mo Ga stream. The cave's history is dramatic: in 1944, local militia fought a battle here against French colonialists. According to legends, the cave's name comes from a pair of phoenixes; it is believed that the silhouettes of the surrounding mountains resemble petrified birds.
The best period to visit: clear skies, a comfortable temperature of 15–20 °C, and golden hues of the rice fields in the valley before harvest.
