What you need to know
Construction of the tunnels began in 1948 at the home of a local resident, Nam Hoi. By 1963, the system had reached impressive proportions: in the northern section, the length of the tunnels reached 3.6 km, and in the western section, 2.5 km. The fortifications were dug up to 6 meters deep and included living quarters, warehouses, medical stations, and even traps for enemies.
The history of the tunnels is inextricably linked with heroic pages of struggle: the residents of Long Phuoc commune successfully repelled large-scale offensives by the French and a coalition of US and Australian forces. Today, this place is a reminder of engineering ingenuity and resilience of spirit. Note: visiting the tunnel area is permitted only when accompanied by a security guard.
