What you need to know
The first church on this site was founded in 1861, and in 1879 the temple was consecrated in honor of the Apostles Philip and James. The modern cathedral building, constructed in the Roman basilica style between 2007 and 2010, is designed to withstand the humid marine climate.
Special attention should be paid to the two 45-meter colored marble towers, which are visible from many parts of the city. Inside the church, there is a majestic white marble altar, twelve stained glass windows depicting the apostles, and restored historical confessionals.
The dry season is ideal for walking around Ba Ria city and exploring the cathedral, when the weather is most comfortable for visits.
