Pilgrimage & History

The Non Nuoc Temple Complex is a unique spiritual and historical site located on an elevation in the Soc Son district. Founded as early as the 10th century, the temple is closely tied to the fates of the early Vietnamese dynasties. Today, it is not only a center of worship featuring a majestic 20-ton Buddha statue, but also a place where ancient architecture and the modern Vietnam Buddhist Academy harmoniously coexist.

About the place

What you need to know

History and Significance

Founded in the 10th century by the monk Cuong Viet, Non Nuoc Temple is firmly rooted in Vietnamese history. It was here in 971 that the position of court preceptor was established and held by the temple's abbot. The complex played a key role in supporting Ly Cong Tuan during his ascension to the throne.

Major Reconstruction

In 2000, under the guidance of the monk Thich Thanh Quyet, the temple was completely renovated. The central focal point became the grand statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, which took master Vu Duy Tuan 18 months to create. Erecting the statue required 30 tons of bronze, 600 cubic meters of rosewood, and 30 cubic meters of green stone. The statue stands 8.4 meters tall.

Architecture

The main temple hall, covering an area of 260 square meters, rises on a mountain slope at an altitude of over 110 meters above sea level. The architectural ensemble is complemented by the Vietnam Buddhist Academy, opened in 2004 as a training center for monks.
