Standing at 1,068 meters high, Yên Tử Mountain is the sacred center of Vietnamese Buddhism. It was here that Emperor Trần Nhân Tông founded the Trúc Lâm school, which became the foundation of the country's spiritual independence. The complex combines majestic nature, a system of ancient temples, and the unique Bronze Pagoda, attracting pilgrims, history enthusiasts, and hikers alike.

What you need to know
The Yên Tử complex includes a system of temples and pagodas stretching 6 km along the mountain slopes. Key sites include Hoa Yên Pagoda, where the monk-emperor Trần Nhân Tông spent most of his life, and the Bronze Pagoda at the summit, cast from 70 tons of pure metal.
In July 2025, the complex was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list as part of the "Yên Tử – Vĩnh Nghiêm – Côn Sơn – Kiếp Bạc" serial site. The trail to the summit winds beneath a canopy of dense pine forests, offering breathtaking views and an atmosphere of deep tranquility, especially in the second half of the year when pilgrim crowds are at a minimum.
Optimal time with cool weather and mist. Minimal crowds compared to the spring pilgrimage period (February).
