The Tran Hung Dao Forest Monument (Rừng Trần Hưng Đạo) is a site of exceptional historical importance. It was here on December 22, 1944, that the Vietnam Propaganda and Liberation Army was founded, becoming the core of the modern Vietnam People's Army. The complex is located in a pristine forest spanning 201.7 hectares and offers a unique combination of heroic history and the picturesque nature of northeastern Vietnam.

What you need to know
In 2013, the complex was recognized as a special national monument. Visitors can see:
- The Central Memorial Stele, where the decree on the creation of the army is engraved.
- Tham Khau Cave — a historical shelter and communication base.
- Phai Khat Fort, where the first victorious combat operation took place on December 25, 1944, now turned into a museum.
- Slem Cao Peak, from where General Vo Nguyen Giap observed strategic directions.
- Living facilities: a reconstructed kitchen and barracks that allow visitors to experience the living conditions of the army's first 34 soldiers.
The dry season provides the most comfortable conditions for walking around the complex and hiking trails in the jungle.
