Thang Hen Lake is a unique system of 36 interconnected lakes located at an altitude of 1,500–1,700 meters above sea level in Quoc Toan commune. Surrounded by pristine forest and limestone cliffs, this place is famous for its emerald-green water color, which remains unchanged even during the flood season, and amazing geological processes.

What you need to know
Thang Hen Lake is part of the UNESCO Non Nuoc Cao Bang Geopark. The main reservoir is diamond-shaped and up to 40 meters deep. The lake is known for its dramatic water level fluctuations: sometimes the water can disappear and return in just a few hours. Nearby is a cave more than 20 meters high passing through the mountain.
The tourist area includes the Thang Hen Lake Eco Resort and walking trails. This is a great place to experience the culture of the Tay, Nung, Mong, and Dao ethnic groups, as well as to taste traditional dishes such as smoked pork and bee larvae with bamboo shoots.
September–October is the best time to observe the full lakes. November–December brings blooming trumpet creepers and wild sunflowers.
