Tích Sơn Pagoda is a unique oasis of peace, founded back in the 11th–12th centuries. As the only national historical monument in Vĩnh Yên city, the temple serves as a shared spiritual heart for five surrounding villages, preserving centuries of Vietnamese Buddhism and the struggle for independence.

What you need to know
The pagoda was founded during the golden age of Vietnamese Buddhism (Lý and Trần dynasties). Despite being relocated to its current site in 1890 due to French construction, the temple has retained its authenticity. The main hall, built in the shape of the Chinese character "Đinh", features impressive massive wooden columns.
History enthusiasts will appreciate the rich collection of artifacts: the statue of the Ten Kings of Hell, the bronze Amitabha Buddha from the late Lý Dynasty, and the 1832 bell. The temple is also known as a "living" monument—during wartime, it served as a school, a kindergarten, and a resistance headquarters, becoming a symbol of the unity between religion and the daily life of the Vietnamese people.
The ideal time to visit is early spring, when major festivals are held (the 2nd and 10th days of the first lunar month) featuring traditional floral palanquins.
