About the place

What you need to know

Kh'Leang Pagoda was founded in 1533 when this land was under the control of the Khmer Empire. Over its five-century history, it has undergone many changes, evolving from a wooden structure with a thatched roof into a monumental architectural landmark. The last major renovation took place in 1918 when the main prayer hall was updated.

Key features:

  • Architectural synthesis: The interior decoration of the temple strikes a balance of Kinh (Vietnamese), Khmer, and Chinese styles. The columns are decorated with lacquer paintings and dragon images, and the ceiling is adorned with frescoes of celestial dancers.
  • Buddha statue: In the central hall stands a majestic statue of Shakyamuni Buddha (6.8 m tall), erected in 1916.
  • Scale: The grounds cover 3.5 hectares, planted with old trees (including sacred bodhi trees).
  • Status: Since 1990, the temple has been included in the list of Vietnam's national historical and cultural monuments.
