Construction of the statue was carried out under the auspices of the Vietnam Buddhist Association from 1999 to 2004. Shakyamuni Buddha is depicted in a meditative pose, sitting on an octagonal lotus-shaped pedestal. The pedestal features eight carved panels depicting stages of Gautama Buddha's life.
Symbolism
Symbolism
The figure of the Buddha embodies wisdom and compassion. Long earlobes, the mark of wisdom on the forehead, and spiral hair curls are all canonical symbols of enlightenment. Locals believe the statue protects Da Nang from natural disasters and brings peace to the city.
Landmark of the Complex
Landmark of the Complex
The statue is located between the picturesque Le Jardin d'Amour gardens and the main building of Linh Ung Pagoda. On a clear day, the statue is visible from afar, while on foggy days, which are frequent here from September to January, it creates an atmosphere of mystical tranquility.
The best time to visit is early morning when the air is at its cleanest, and visibility allows for the best photographs without tourist crowds.
