Gành Đá Đĩa is a rare geological wonder consisting of approximately 35,000 basalt columns formed over 200 million years ago. The impressive polygonal columns, resembling a giant beehive, were created by the rapid cooling of lava upon contact with seawater and subsequent erosion. This is an international-level site, comparable to the famous Giant's Causeway in Ireland.

What you need to know
Geology and History The columns originated from basaltic lava resulting from volcanic activity on the Vân Hoà plateau. When hot lava collided with the cold sea, the rock cracked, forming regular geometric shapes. Wave erosion over time separated them into layers, creating the visual effect of a "stack of plates."
Key Highlights The structures are arranged vertically, inclined, or curved. In the south, the columns form smooth stepped tiers, while in the north they are more chaotically curved. In 2020, the monument was designated as a Special National Monument of Vietnam.
Best Time to Visit The site looks most striking at sunrise, when the stones cast a golden glow, and at sunset, when the basalt takes on pink hues. The optimal dry period lasts from January to August.
