What you need to know
The pagoda was built in the 10th century and has been renovated several times since, preserving the unique features of Khmer architecture. The main hall of the temple faces east, following the canons of Buddha's teachings. A notable architectural feature is the three-tiered roof, symbolizing the realms of desire, form, and formlessness, decorated with mythical Naga serpents.
Inside, you will find 12 gilded columns and a 2.1-meter-tall seated statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, surrounded by 50 other statues. The entire complex spans 3.5 hectares and includes a rare five-tiered stupa housing the remains of past abbots, as well as a deep protective moat 400 meters long. Every year, on the 15th day of the 10th lunar month, the grand Ok Om Bok festival takes place here.
The dry season is ideal for walking around the vast grounds of the pagoda. Visiting during the 10th lunar month allows you to witness the vibrant national festival.
