The Hon Khoi salt fields are a unique place to witness the daily hard labor of local workers. Located in Khanh Hoa province, these fields cover 400 hectares and are one of Vietnam's major salt production centers. This is not a tourist spot, but an active enterprise where the process of salt crystallization under the sun creates incredible visual landscapes that attract photographers from all over the world.

What you need to know
The Hon Khoi salt fields are located in Hon Khoi village (Ninh Hai commune, Ninh Hoa town). About 750,000 tons of salt are harvested here annually. The process is quite simple: seawater is channeled into shallow ponds where it evaporates under the scorching sun for 7–10 days. Workers then manually collect the salt crystals using bamboo carrying poles and specialized wooden tools.
Since this is an active production site, there is no tourist infrastructure: no ticket offices, no signs, and no viewing platforms. It is recommended to exercise caution and avoid entering active work areas.
This is the active salt production season. The best time to visit is early morning before 8:00 AM or evening after 3:00 PM, when the light is most dramatic and the heat subsides slightly.
