Dien Khanh Citadel is a unique monument of military architecture, erected in 1793 by order of the future Emperor Gia Long. The fortress is of interest to history enthusiasts and those traveling around the outskirts of Nha Trang by motorbike. Although it is now a residential settlement inside, the preserved gates and earth ramparts allow visitors to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the era of Vietnam's unification.

What you need to know
The citadel is designed in the Vauban style, characteristic of 17th-18th-century Western Europe. The irregular hexagon-shaped structure covers 3.5 hectares. Initially having 6 gates, 4 have survived to this day (Eastern, Western, Southern, and Northern).
The architecture of the gates consists of compact towers with traditional Vietnamese curved roofs (4.1 meters high). The perimeter is surrounded by impressive earth ramparts (2.7 km long) and ditches up to 5 meters deep. The citadel received the status of a national monument in 1988. In 2014, a program was launched to transform the area into a full-fledged tourist attraction.
The dry season is most favorable for trips around the surroundings of Nha Trang by motorbike.
