Phon Xuong Fortress (Go Fort) is a site of exceptional historical importance, where General De Tham's headquarters was located in 1894–1895. As the center of one of the longest peasant uprisings in Vietnam, this fort preserves the memory of the heroic struggle against French colonialists. Visiting this memorial complex allows you to touch upon key pages of the national history of the struggle for independence.

What you need to know
Phon Xuong Fortress is a unique example of late 19th-century defensive architecture. The complex, with a total area of over one hectare, was designed as a complex system of two concentric citadels with earthen walls, embrasures, and multi-tiered combat positions for shooters.
What to see:
- Defensive walls: the eastern part is best preserved and still shows bullet marks from the 1909 battle.
- New Temple: opened in 2024 for the anniversary of the uprising, dedicated to the memory of General De Tham and his comrades.
- Exhibition Center: the nearby museum houses an ethnographic collection and artifacts of the rebels' military life.
- Ba Ba Temple: located directly on the territory of the fortress.
Dry season with comfortable temperatures. Fewer tourists on weekdays. Mid-March is the ideal time to visit if you want to catch the Yen The Festival.
