Bau Truc Village is a living open-air museum where the Cham people continue a pottery tradition dating back up to 3,000 years. Recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage site, it is a center for preserving authentic pottery craftsmanship based on manual techniques and open-air firing.

What to know
Located in Ninh Thuan province, Bau Truc village is considered the cradle of Cham pottery art.
Production Features:
- Manual Labor: Artisans do not use a potter's wheel, working only with simple tools (bamboo rings, knives, shells).
- Firing Secrets: Ceramics are fired outdoors for 6–12 hours, covered with straw and rice husk.
- Unique Design: Mottled patterns in red-brown and black-gray tones are achieved through a special spraying of cashew shell extract onto hot items.
Today, over 400 families in the village carefully pass this knowledge down from generation to generation, and tourists are invited not only to observe the process but also to try shaping and firing under the guidance of local artisans.
The dry season is ideal for a visit: pleasant weather allows for comfortable observation of the open-air firing process and strolling through the village.
