Viewpoint

The Bai Chay Bridge is not just an important infrastructure facility connecting the Hon Gai and Bai Chay districts in Ha Long city, but also one of the region's main landmarks. Replacing the old ferry crossing, the bridge became an embodiment of technological progress, and its elegant architecture, resembling a drawn bow, adorns the bay's landscapes both by day and by night when the spectacular LED lighting is turned on.

About

What you need to know

History and Purpose

The bridge was built in 40 months (2003–2006) with the participation of Japanese and Vietnamese engineers to unite the two city centers of Ha Long. At the time of its opening, the structure set a world record for the length of the main span (435 meters) for single-plane cable-stayed bridges.

Technical Features

With a length of 1,106 meters, the bridge is a unique engineering structure. It can withstand earthquakes up to magnitude 7 and wind gusts up to 180 km/h. The towers stand 90 meters high above the deck level, and the 50-meter clearance allows large vessels with a displacement of up to 50,000 tons to pass underneath.

For Tourists

Pedestrian walkways 2.5 meters wide are provided. This is the best place to take panoramic photos of Ha Long Bay and Cua Luc Bay. After dark, the bridge transforms into a grandiose light installation, reflecting in the waters of the bay.
