Strongest typhoon hits Vietnam.

Over the past three days, 44 people have died and 19 are listed as missing. Typhoon Damrey is the 12th to hit Vietnam in the last 20 years and the most severe in terms of damage.

As a result of heavy rains and floods, more than 40,000 residential houses were flooded. Because of this, over 30,000 residents have left their homes. Many areas were left without electricity. More than 40,000 hectares of agricultural land are flooded.

Accordingly, in central Vietnam, transport links were disrupted — many highways are flooded. As much as 30 km of the railway connecting the south and north of the country is under water.

The greatest damage from the typhoon fell on Phu Yen province; the majority of people died precisely on the territory of this province. However, Khanh Hoa province, where the major resort city of Nha Trang is located, also suffered. Territories north of Phu Yen were also affected, and flooding occurred in Hoi An. The southern resort of Mui Ne remained safe.

The country's government promptly organized large-scale restoration work in the affected provinces. Administrative centers were ordered to take all measures to restore normal living conditions.
