Van Thanh Temple is a lesser-known gem of the Mekong Delta, built between 1864 and 1866 by royal decree. For a long time, this place served as a center for imperial exam preparation and a stronghold of Confucian philosophy in the southern region of Vietnam. Today, the temple is a national historical and cultural monument, attracting travelers who seek tranquility and an authentic atmosphere of Vietnamese history.

What you need to know
Van Thanh Temple has preserved its architectural appearance despite numerous restorations. The main hall, Dai Thanh Dien, stands on a stone foundation and houses the altar of Confucius, as well as niches for his loyal disciples and sages.
Of particular interest is the Van Thuong Giac building, which served as a library for Confucian classics. In front of it stand two vintage cannons dating back to 1860, symbolizing the past defense of Vinh Long city. The atmosphere here is much more secluded and authentic than in mainstream tourist locations.
The dry season features comfortable temperatures (24–32°C) and no rainfall, making it ideal for walking tours and exploring the temple complex on your own.
