History and Significance
Trần Quốc Tuấn, known as Trần Hưng Đạo, was the greatest strategist of the Trần dynasty. He is famous for successfully defending the state of Đại Việt from Mongol invasions in the 13th century, including the legendary victory at the Battle of Bạch Đằng (1287–1288).
Monument Characteristics
The 16.72-meter-tall statue is made of reinforced concrete and set atop Gành Hổ Hill (50 meters above sea level). The commander is depicted in a dynamic combat pose, symbolizing his command prowess in battle. Completed in 1973, the monument oversees the mouth of the Thị Nại River. Today, it is a place of veneration for the sacred protector and an important cultural site for travelers interested in military architecture and the history of Vietnam.
