About the place

What you need to know

Standing 10 meters tall, the tower was built between the 8th and 12th centuries and was likely dedicated to the god Shiva. The main engineering puzzle of the structure lies in its fired brick masonry, where joints are nearly invisible due to the incredibly tight fitting of the elements. The entrance to the tower is traditionally oriented eastward.

To this day, the site retains remnants of decorative carvings depicting lingas and floral motifs. The tower stands on an elevated platform—the remains of an ancient temple complex where archaeologists have found pottery fragments and the foundations of other structures. In 1993, the site was granted national historical monument status.
