The city district known as the Colonial Quarter features interesting French-style architecture as well as wide avenues. Hai Phong suffered during the Vietnam War, but nevertheless managed to retain its own colonial charm, which is noticeable on Dien Bien Phu, Tran Hung Dao, Tran Phu, and Quang Trung streets.
