Co Le Pagoda (Thần Quang tự) is a specially significant national monument of Vietnam, founded in the 12th century by the monk Nguyen Minh Khong. The site is notable not only for its ancient history, but also for its unusual architectural synthesis of Eastern traditions and Western Gothic style, as well as a rich collection of historical artifacts.

What you need to know
The pagoda was founded during the Ly Dynasty. After being destroyed during a flood in 1611, it was restored using a unique layout in the shape of the Chinese character «工» (I-shape).
What to see:
- The 32-meter nine-tier lotus tower, symbolizing the "nine heavens."
- The "Kim Chung Bao Cac" bell tower and the famous Big Bell (Đại Hồng Chung) weighing 9,000 kg, cast in 1936.
- Artifact collection: over 100 statues from various periods and 313 stone steles.
In September 2025, the pagoda received the status of a Special National Monument of Vietnam. Every year, a large-scale festival takes place here featuring traditional boat races, recognized as part of the country's intangible cultural heritage.
The dry season is the most comfortable time for walking around the complex grounds.
