What it is and why
Meeting sunset in Vietnam is not just expectation of sun going behind horizon, but special ritual. On coast, especially on western islands like Phu Quoc, sunsets color South China sea in incredible shades of pink, violet and fiery. This is time when beaches empty, and local fishermen prepare to exit to sea.
If you prefer mountain landscapes, then sunsets in Sapa or on Hai Van pass will gift you feeling of flight above clouds. In cities like Ho Chi Minh or Hanoi, worth looking for "rooftop" bars or embankments — to watch how megapolis gradually lights with lights on background of fading sky, can infinitely.

Tips
- Come 30-40 minutes before real time of sunset, to catch "golden hour", when lighting is softest for photo.
- On coast always take with you anti-mosquito spray — exactly on sunset activity of insects sharply rises.
- In mountain area sunset comes 15–20 minutes earlier than on plain, due to relief of terrain.
- Look for cafe with view on west: in Vietnam popular platforms oriented exactly on evening traffic.
Caution
- Be careful on bikes during twilight: Vietnamese roads become more dangerous due to poor visibility and absence of lighting on highways.
- In rainy season dense cloudiness can hide sunset completely, check forecast of cloudiness.
