Kitesurfing
Ride the Vietnamese wind: from first tacks to top aerobatics
What it is and why
The Vietnamese coast, especially its southern part, is famous for its unique wind regime. Stable northeast monsoon provides ideal conditions for kitesurfing in winter months. Here everyone will find their place: from beginners taking first steps in shallow lagoons to experienced riders who fly in for high waves and powerful wind.
Kitesurfing infrastructure in Vietnam is developed at the highest level: dozens of professional schools with certified instructors (IKO) offer training in different languages, rental of the latest equipment, and rescue services on the water. This allows safe progression, practicing tricks, or simply enjoying speed over waves.

Tips
- Best time to go to the spot is from 11:00 to 16:00, when wind becomes stable and even.
- Always check the forecast on Windguru, but consider local effects (thermals) that can be stronger than expected.
- For learning, choose schools that offer rescue boat services — this will give confidence in safety.
- Use long-sleeve rash guard and quality sunscreen, as sun combined with light reflected from water is very aggressive.
Caution
- Avoid riding near fishing nets — they are often left in the coastal zone, which is dangerous for kite lines.
- In peak season, popular spots can have many kitesurfers — keep distance and observe priority rules on the water.
- May–October is time of calm or unpredictable winds in the south, for riding during this time you need other regions with different climatic conditions.
