What it is and why

Jeep tour in Vietnam is most often trip on restored army American jeeps Willys or GAZ-69. Format can be different: either short "throws" to picturesque locations like white dunes, or large expeditions through mountain passes along Ho Chi Minh route.

Main advantage of such transport is all-wheel drive and absence of glasses. You literally ride inside landscape, feeling change of smells of tropical forest, sea salt or mountain freshness. This is best choice for those who want drive, but not ready to go through whole country on bike independently.

Tips

Be sure to use sunscreen and face bandana — dust on dirt roads is inevitable.
Check serviceability of seat belts if you are going on difficult mountain route.
Agree with driver in advance about stop points for photos — jeep easily stops where bus cannot stand.
Take with you compact audio column or headphones, as noise of motor of old jeep is quite strong.

Caution

Not recommended for people with spine problems: suspension of old military jeeps is very stiff.
In rainy season some forest roads become difficult to pass even for jeep — always clarify forecast.
