What it is and why

Fishing here is deeply rooted in daily life. You can choose the "like locals" format: bamboo rod on the bank of a canal in the Mekong Delta — this is more about communication and unhurried observation of life than about catch. For serious fishermen sea tours are open, where on boats they go to open sea for tuna or barracuda.

In mountain regions lake fishing is popular, where in silence and surrounded by jungles you can spend the whole day. Most resort places offer organized trips: equipment will be provided, catch is often cooked right there on grill on board or in the nearest coastal restaurant.

Tips

Always ask the boat owner about "catch & cook" — preparation of freshly caught fish on board makes the impression 10 times better.
For sea fishing be sure to use sunscreen with high SPF: on water sun "burns" even in cloudy weather.
If going fishing on local lakes — take mosquito repellent with you, in jungles they become active by evening.
Do not neglect local style — ask the fisherman to show the bait used in this particular place.

Caution

Avoid fishing during storm season (October-November on Central Coast) — going to sea becomes dangerous.
Always clarify in advance the cost of renting equipment and fuel to avoid overpayment on site.
