In the south, in the Mekong Delta, the format is different: either fast boat trips through narrow channels or leisurely multi-day cruises on authentic wooden sampans. Here you will see floating markets, fruit gardens, and the lifestyle of local communities that has not changed for decades.
When choosing a cruise, focus on comfort level: today both noisy party boats for youth and premium yachts with full service, personal balconies on the water, and exquisite cuisine are available.

Tips
- Book cruises through verified agencies: the price often includes transfer from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, which saves a lot of effort.
- Always check the weather forecast. In case of strong wind or storm, ports in Halong close, and ship departures are prohibited.
- Bring sunscreen and a light windbreaker: even in heat, it can be cool on the water due to the breeze.
- For the Mekong, choose morning departures (before 8:00) to catch the peak activity at floating markets.
Caution
- Be careful when choosing cheap tours to Halong — service and ship condition can be significantly lower than advertised photos.
- In inter-island cruises, watch your personal belongings on deck when moving between boats.
