History and Legend
History and Legend
The temple was founded to commemorate the manifestation of Mother Liễu Hạnh, who, disguised as a rice porridge vendor, sustained the strength of Emperor Quang Trung's soldiers before the Battle of Ngọc Hồi – Đống Đa. After the emperor achieved victory, he ordered a temple to be built on the site of her stall. The temple's current appearance took shape during the 1854 restoration.
Architecture
Architecture
The temple is built in the "nhị" architectural style and consists of three sanctuaries:
Third Sanctuary:
Dedicated to the Four Palaces/Lords of the Directions.
Second Sanctuary:
The altar of Chúa Bản Đền, adorned with columns featuring dragon and phoenix carvings.
Inner Sanctuary:
The main sacred space housing the statue of Mother Liễu Hạnh in a gilded alcove.
The roof is adorned with sculptural depictions of two dragons. The courtyard preserves ancient trees and a garden with "Ngũ Hành Sơn" miniature rock formations.
The best time to visit is during the Lunar New Year period, when grand festivals with solemn processions take place. At other times, the temple is ideal for a quiet stroll.
