Phu Ly Catholic Church is a significant spiritual and architectural site whose history dates back to the late 19th century. Bearing the title of the "Sacred Heart of Jesus," the church is the heart of the local Catholic community, uniting over a thousand believers. Having weathered the destructive events of the 20th century, the building has been carefully restored and today serves not only as a place of worship but also as an important center for the city's social and educational life.

What you need to know
The Catholic community in Phu Ly began to form in the 1890s thanks to the French missionary Father Souvignet Henri Emmanuel. Years after the construction of the first wooden chapel, a stone church was erected on this site in 1907.
The church's fate was dramatic: it was repeatedly damaged during military conflicts, including near-total destruction in 1967 when only the bell tower survived. For 40 years, the church remained abandoned. The modern appearance of the temple is the result of a large-scale reconstruction that began in 2008. The new building was solemnly consecrated on January 23, 2013, by the Archbishop of Hanoi. Today, the patron saint of this place is the Virgin Mary, whose feast day is celebrated on August 15.
