The Tân Phú Trung Community House is not just an architectural structure, but a living center of spiritual life for the commune. Built in the mid-19th century, it bears witness to the history of the Mekong Delta and serves as a guardian of traditions carefully passed down from generation to generation. What to know
The community house was erected during the reign of King Tự Đức and was officially recognized as a national historical monument in 2012. The building represents the pinnacle of Nguyễn Dynasty craftsmanship in the region.
What to see:
- Roofing system: The unique yin-yang roof is adorned with mythical creatures: dragons, unicorns, phoenixes, and the "Eight Immortals."
- Agarwood statues: Inside are three extremely rare statues of holy emperors carved from the most valuable agarwood.
- Courtyard and additions: The grounds include a ceramic unicorn figure, an 8-meter flagpole, the Sơn Thần (Tiger God) shrine, and the Five Elements shrine.
- Carvings: The interior is decorated with detailed panels featuring symbols of the four seasons and traditional ornaments.
If you happen to be here during the Kỳ Yên festival dates (in the fourth or fifth lunar month), you will witness grand processions and prayers for prosperity that gather tens of thousands of pilgrims.
