What you need to know
Quan Chuong Gate, originally named Dong Ha, is a unique example of 18th-century architecture. It is a two-story stone and brick structure with a central three-meter arch through which dignitaries once passed. The side passages were historically intended for livestock and merchants.
The gate received its modern name in 1873 in honor of commander Chuong, who heroically defended the city against the French. Today, the gate is protected by UNESCO and is the only fully preserved fragment of the former fortifications. It is located at the end of Hang Chieu Street — one of the most colorful spots in the Old Quarter, right next to the largest Dong Xuan Market.
