The Lý Thái Tổ Monument is a significant landmark in Hanoi's history, located on the eastern shore of the famous Hoàn Kiếm Lake. The monument is dedicated to Emperor Lý Thái Tổ, the founder of the Later Lý Dynasty, who chose the site to build the city of Thăng Long, which became the precursor to modern Hanoi. It is an ideal spot to experience Vietnamese culture surrounded by a picturesque park.

What you need to know
The copper monument was officially unveiled on October 7, 2004. Its installation was timed to coincide with significant milestones: the 50th anniversary of the liberation of Hanoi and the 1000th anniversary of the founding of Thăng Long, the center of Vietnamese civilization.
Located in the Hoàn Kiếm district, the monument is part of Lý Thái Tổ Park (formerly Chí Linh Park). It is an open public space where locals and visitors gather for walks and cultural recreation. The park features plenty of shady trees, making visits comfortable even on hot days.
Important note: Do not confuse this site with the older statue of King Lê Thái Tổ (16th century), which is located on the western shore of the lake, within the complex featuring a temple and the Nam Hương Communal House.
