The Palace of Culture and Friendship is a monumental complex in the heart of Hanoi, presented as a gift from the USSR to the Vietnamese people. Combining elements of Soviet socialist realism with Vietnamese aesthetics, it serves as an important historical landmark and a venue for the country's key state and cultural events.

What you need to know
The complex was built between 1978 and 1985 from a design by Soviet architect Harold Isakovich. Spanning 3.2 hectares, the large-scale building brings together three pavilions: theatrical, educational, and scientific-technical.
Visitors will enjoy viewing the facade, which is decorated with relief panels dedicated to Vietnamese-Soviet solidarity. The interior features about 120 rooms, including halls with revolving stages and library areas. Following a 2021 restoration, the complex has been fully modernized while preserving its historical appearance.
